Growing up in Los Angeles, I have personally witnessed the devastating effects of gun violence and the pain and destruction it inflicts on families and the community. I firmly believe that the current gun laws we have today are lacking in preventing guns from falling into the wrong hands of criminals, people with mental issues, domestic abusers, and children.
I am committed to fighting for essential gun safety legislation to protect children and communities from school shootings, mass shootings, and other gun violence. I will focus on measures implementing universal background checks, closing the gun show loophole, banning military-style weapons like AR-15s, and prohibiting devices like bump stocks.
I will continue to support the implementation of red flag laws to prevent dangerous individuals from obtaining firearms and allow family members or law enforcement to petition a court to temporarily remove firearms from individuals deemed dangerous which also includes due process protections to prevent abuse. Restricting access to certain high-capacity magazines or automatic weapons and monitoring sales of parts that can convert firearms into more dangerous forms will be legislation I will work on.
