Caring for both my elder sisters has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life. These are individuals who, through no fault of their own, can no longer fully care for themselves. I’ve seen firsthand the struggles they face, from managing daily needs to getting adequate healthcare, to keeping dignity and independence.
Being their caregiver has deepened my understanding of the urgent need for policies that support seniors and those who care for them. Every senior deserves access to quality healthcare, safe housing, and compassionate support, and every caregiver deserves recognition and resources to help them provide that care. This is personal for me, and it drives my commitment to fight for seniors and families like mine.
This experience has made me deeply aware of the urgent need for policies that protect our seniors and support those who care for them. Seniors deserve access to quality healthcare, safe and affordable housing, social services, and programs that help them remain engaged in their communities. At the same time, caregivers deserve resources, training, and recognition to help them meet these responsibilities without sacrificing their own well-being. For me, this is not just an issue, it is personal. Every policy I advocate for, every decision I fight for, is driven by the knowledge that our seniors built the communities we enjoy today and that they, and the families who care for them, deserve nothing less than respect, support, and dignity.
As a congressperson, I will advocate for the protection and preservation of Social Security, Medi-Cal, and Medicare. These programs are essential, and I strongly oppose the effort to defund or privatize them. I do not support raising the retirement age limit or cutting off important benefits for any programs that help Seniors. In Congress, I will fight to continue to allow Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices and put a cap on the cost of insulin. This is a must for me.
