We as a society must stop treating homelessness only as a public safety and enforcement issue. We must scale Housing First, prevention, and make more affordable supportive homes, and pair that with sustained operating subsidies and coordinated services. I believe this combination is the good path to ending chronic street homelessness in San Diego.
When in office, I will always vote to endorse local funding measures that guarantee operating subsidies. I will also demand transparent dashboards and quarterly public briefings from our Cities and Counties. I urge a bill that will support landlord incentive programs and tenant protections to prevent new homelessness.
